Laser Therapy
WHAT IS HIGH POWERED LASER THERAPY?
Laser therapy, also known as photo-biomodulation, is the use of light in the far-red to near-infrared region of the spectrum (630-1000nm) to modulate and influence numerous cellular functions.
HOW CAN LASER THERAPY HELP ME?
Laser therapy is widely used in many aspects of wellness and injury management. It can accelerate wound healing from surgery or injuries, improve recovery from most musculoskeletal injuries, reduce the impact of common ailments such as peripheral neuropathy and osteoarthritis, and promote general wellness such as improved overall blood flow, improved lymphatic flow, and improved hormonal gland activity. Here is an example of a list of conditions that laser therapy can help with:
- Peripheral Neuropathy
- Poor blood flow and lymph flow
- Wound healing after surgery or injuries
- Neck Muscular Pain
- Neck Arthritis management
- Bells Palsy Management
- Temporomandibular/TMJ (Jaw) pain
- Hypothyroidism
- Rotator Cuff (Shoulder) Tear Healing
- Shoulder Bursitis
- Frozen Shoulder / Adhesive Capsulitis
- Tennis Elbow and Golfer’s Elbow
- De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis
- Spinal Disc Mid and Lower Back Pain
- Lateral Hip Pain (Trochanteric Bursitis or Gluteal Tendinopathy)
- Knee Conditions and Pain (Arthritis, Tendon Injury, Meniscal Tears, Ligament Tears)
- Hamstring Tendinopathy and Tendon Pain
- Achilles Tendon Tears and Swelling
- Ankle Tendon and Ligament Tears
- Plantar Fasciitis
HOW DOES HIGH POWERED LASER THERAPY WORK?
- Laser therapy works by stimulating the photoacceptor cytochrome c oxidase within your cells, resulting in increased natural energy production and cellular activity within your tissues. It results in multiple positive changes within the area treated by laser therapy
- Improved Blood Flow (Vasodilation)
- Through increased Carbon Dioxide production through improved cellular metabolism
- Through moving Nitric Oxide away from tissues undergoing stress/inflammation, preventing it from binding to energy (ATP) producing substances in cells (since NO is non-covalently bound to the heme and Cu centers and competitively blocks oxygen at a ratio of 1:10, a relatively low energy photon can kick out the NO and allow a lot of respiration to take place)
- Increased cellular energy (ATP) production for vital cellular functions such as repair and rebuilding damaged or stressed tissues
- Reduction, control, and prevention pain by downregulating the activity of pain receptors
WHAT ARE FACTORS THAT WILL PREVENT LASER USE?
- History of a histologically demonstrated malignant carcinoma;
- Irradiation of the neck region in hyperthyreosis/hyperthyroidism
- Epilepsy
- Exposure of the retina/eyes
- Exposure of the abdomen during pregnancy
- At your first laser therapy session, our laser therapist will conduct a detailed assessment of your current and past medical history, to ensure that you are as safe as possible
